Cone Penetration Testing (CPTU)

Cone Penetration Testing (CPTU) is an in-situ soil investigation technique used to determine soil behavior and soil stratification. During the testing process, a cone-shaped test probe is pushed into the ground and provides real-time data regarding the following properties: 1) Cone Tip Resistance 2) Sleeve Friction and 3) Pore Water Pressure. Real-time data provided by the CPTU eliminates the need for sampling, logging, and laboratory testing.

CPTU is a highly sensitive technique that detects even the smallest changes in soil properties throughout the layers which may not be detected via traditional methods. Compared to Standard Penetration Testing (SPT), the CPT is more accurate, faster to deploy, highly repeatable, offers a more continuous soil profile & provides data on pore water pressure. This makes CPT the ideal exploration solution for a wide range of geotechnical engineering applications.
